The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, provides monthly benefits to help low-income families buy the food they need to be healthy.
SNAP is a federal program administered at the local level by the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
At the national level, SNAP is the largest programme in the domestic hunger safety net.
SNAP is intended as a supplement to income to help meet nutritional needs.
Mississippi residents facing food insecurity are being asked to apply for the program.
